Te Roopu a Iwi o Te Arawa Charitable Trust - also known as Maatua Whāngai - is an approved Iwi/Māori Social Service provider that delivers a range of services and programmes to the community.
A hui was held with koeke from the 8 hapū of Te Arawa, who agreed to mandate the Trust to deliver social services to the people living in the rohe of Te Arawa. The Trust received certification of incorporation under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 on the 29 June 1988, and was approved in 1996 as an Iwi Social Service provider and a Community Service provider under Sections 396 and 403 of the Children Young Persons and their Families Act 1989. Te Roopu a Iwi o Te Arawa Trust currently has 6 trustees and 9 staff members. The organisation is based at Tārewa Pounamu Marae and also has an office in the Rotorua CBD, where counselling services and the Whānau Ora Paearahi are based. |
